# Card requests

> Ask for a card and let an approver decide.

People who cannot issue cards themselves request them. An approver reviews
the request in Slash, and an approved request issues the card to its
requester.

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST "https://api.slash.com/v2/card-requests" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $SLASH_API_KEY" \
  -H "x-legal-entity: $SLASH_LEGAL_ENTITY_ID" \
  -H "X-Idempotency-Key: $(uuidgen)" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "type": "virtual",
    "name": "Conference travel",
    "requestedLimit": { "amount": { "amount": 200000, "currency": "USD" }, "period": "monthly" },
    "memo": "Flights and hotel for the October offsite"
  }'
```

The card is issued a few seconds after approval, so an `approved` request can
briefly have no `cardId`.

Requesters see their own requests in [`GET /v2/card-requests`](/api-reference/card-requests/list); people with
card access see every request on their accounts. Approving, rejecting and
canceling happen in Slash.
